Bird Flu To Swine Flu

Almost all human diseases originate from other animals and then adapt to human hosts, says University of Guelph agriculture professor David Waltner-Toews, according to the author of The Chickens Fight Back: Pandemic Panics and Deadly Diseases that Jump from Animals to People.

People, birds and pigs are easily affected with different strains of virus or influenza. The easiest to transmit by human to human virus is human influenza. It is very possible that humans can also get bird influenza and pig influenza, but it typically requires very close contact with the animals, according to Waltner-Toews.

Bird or avian influenza is particularly hard to get, but humans who do get it experience very severe symptoms. That is why people were worried about a deadly pandemic if avian influenza were to mutate in such a way as to become easily transmissible between humans. Swine influenza is somewhat easier to transmit to humans but its symptoms tend to be milder than bird influenza.

Most flus contracted by humans are made up of predominately human influenza, but contain small pieces of avian or swine influenza. Swine flu is unusual because it is made up mostly of swine influenza but contains small amounts of avian and human influenza.

The movement of a virus between species opens up more opportunities for mutations in the virus, said Dr. Ruben Donis, head of the molecular genetics branch of the influenza division at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

The mutations would not necessarily make the virus cause more severe disease, but it cannot be ruled out, Donis said.

Mutations could also perhaps make the virus stronger at beating the immune system or resistant to drugs, said Stephen Drews, a clinical microbiologist at Ontario's Public Health Laboratories.

Swine Flu-AH1N1 Survival Guide

It's here in the Philippines. The dreaded flu, AH1N1 or commonly known as swine flu, has arrived in the Philippines. This was confirmed by Health Secretary Dr. Francisco Duque III last thursday night. A 10-year old Filipino girl who arrived from the United States together with her parents on May 18, 2009 was infected by swine flu. The said girl was not detected by the thermal scanner because she was still very well when she arrived in NAIA airport but manifested the symptoms of swine flu the day after.

Other safety measures include eating healthy foodstuff, washing hands; timely sleeping habits should beconsistent and a lot of water specially when it too hot. It is always good to stay away from the victims and stay away fronm crowded places. Even if you get infected, you do not need to worry at all because swine flu cure is available like any other fatal diseases.

The truth is that swine flu can be controlled by the Tami flu along with fine quantity of Hydrogen peroxide and vitamin C. The outbreak of swine flu gave a surprise with its expansion worldwide. However, many cases of swine flu was cured successfully in the US. Conversely, some cases have been deadly as well in Mexico. In order to stay away from this disease, you just need to make a change in your habit and if you come up with symptoms of swine flu then consult your doctor at very initial stage as soon as possible so that you could prevent it from becoming worse.

From December to March there is difference between swine flu and regular flu that mostly people experience. Avoiding Medical Fraud Part -3

Do Experts in the field use the service?

Does your doctor take the vitamin you are considering? Does the doctor’s family? Does arthritis doctors who have arthritis wear magnetic or copper bracelets? Do cancer doctors use laetrile when they or their spouse have cancer? Doctors and their families get cancer, and other diseases just as frequently as anybody else. If any treatment have the remotest chance of benefiting one of these serious conditions, the physician would use that product. In point of fact, physicians do not use these marginal services. Instead doctors have decreased their cigarette smoking. They have taken up jogging, and other regular forms of exercise. They have not endorsed megavitamin therapy, diet fads, and other popular fancies by their own use, except in unusual instances.
Does the proposed service make sense?
This is the final test. Frequently, medical frauds and promotions of of false cures are successful because no one really asks whether it makes commonsense. Do you really think that creams will improve your bust line? Or that you can lose weight only in the hips? Or that a vitamin will help your sex life? Or that a lamb’s embryo will keep you young? By definition, false cures have false rationale. This rationale is often weak and easily identified as such.

Avoiding Medical Fraud Part-2

What Are The Promises and Claims

This is the second question to ask in detecting a medical fraud. Are they vague and misleading? A typical advertisement urges purchase of a product “containing an ingredient recommended by doctors”. This is intended to deceive and to hide a medical fraud; the advertiser knows that if the ingredient where named, you would recognize it to be relatively ineffective for the problem or readily available at less expense.

Beware of the testimonials, coupons and guarantees. If a product or a service is advertised by testimonials, it is probably of marginal value or lower which usually happen if there’s a medical fraud. A testimonial will consist of ”before and after” pictures. It may be a story told by a presumed patient relating success with the treatment. On occasion, testimonials will be totally fabricated, another favorite of a hustler in a medical fraud. However, even if the testimonial is accurate, it provides no reliable information. Your interest is not the proposed service has ever help anyone but whether it is likely to help you. There is an important difference in these statements. You must read between the lines to detect medical frauds.

Coupons are another clue to bad services. Worthwhile services are not marketed thru magazines and newspaper coupons, medical frauds are. “Guarantees” in medicine are almost a guarantee that a product or service is worthless. In medicine, guarantee is not possible. There are always exceptions as well as possibilities of unfortunate results. Not a worthwhile medical service is accompanied by a money back guarantee. Thus, it isn’t that the guarantee will not be honored (which probably also the case) but that the offer itself strongly suggests a suspicious product or medical fraud.

Avoiding Medical Fraud Part-1

At least 3Billlion yearly are spent in medical fraud, hoaxes and false cures. You probably contribute to this windfall of medical fraud. When you buy worthless medicines/drugs, as a result of television and advertisements, take a massive amounts of the vitamin-of-the-month or send away for “cures” advertised in the back of a magazine, you are paying part of this bill. I should say, you are being hustled.

You can recognize a hustle or medical fraud. There are four questions to ask for you to be able to identify a medical fraud and a dishonest marketer. The questions are:

What is the Motive of the Marketer?

Make some rough estimates of the proposed service as a business. Is it a revolving door operation, where people walk in the door with their money and walk out without it? What is the average fee paid by the customer? How many patients are seen in an hour? The product of these two numbers represents the hourly income of the operation. If the gross amount exceeds $100 per professional employee, watch out! It is a likely candidate of a medical fraud.

Many patients have paid hundreds of dollars to have their arthritis “treated” with ordinary flu shots which should represent a trivial charge. Medicines maybe repackage and marked up and misrepresented. The hustler is doing it for money. Don’t be misled by a “loss leader” that is apparent bargain. Look at the total cost over the long term. Tomorrow, well examine the second question to ask to detect a medical fraud.
